'Captain Reman' to keynote BIG R Show

The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association has announced that "Captain Reman" – Noah Rickun – will keynote the BIG R Show on Oct. 30. Rickun will talk about "Pocketbook Issues That Drive Your Bottom Line." In his experiences with ETE Reman in Milwaukee, Rickun has learned a great deal about the remanufacturing industry and how to drop more dollars to your bottom line regardless of the product line you remanufacture and the size of your business. More

Recycling giant will now work with remanufacturers

According to the Recycler website, U.S. firm Waste Management will now collect used ink cartridges and sell them to remanufacturers as part of new initiative. Called "Recycle-2-Save", this new program will allow customers to contact Waste Management for a box (the box itself is free), and includes a prepaid shipping label. The customer then only has to send the box back to Waste Management and in return will get a certificate of recycling. More

EDI moves remanufacturing operation to dedicated building

Extrusion Dies Industries LLC is relocating its flat die remanufacturing operation in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to a larger, dedicated facility that focuses on die rework, spare-parts fabrication and other aftermarket services. The move is part of EDI's ongoing lean manufacturing initiative, according to Kelly Harings-Mrozinski, director of marketing. It will reduce the time needed to work on dies sent in for cleaning, resurfacing, repairs or enhancements such as upgrading from a manual to an automatic die, she said. More

Euro Car Parts acquired for £225 million

Euro Car Parts, the U.K. based parts supplier, has been acquired by LKQ Corporation for £225million. LKQ is the largest supplier of aftermarket and recycled collision replacement parts and refurbished collision replacement products in the U.S. and Canada. The purchase price could increase by up to a further £55 million if Euro Car Parts meets certain growth targets. More

Truck owners and the oil field industry in Wyoming will have direct access to truck parts and remanufacturing services, with the opening of a new Inland Truck Parts location in Evansville on Oct. 17. It will be managed by area residents Marshal Smouse and Greg Woodin, who between them have more than 50 years of experience leading truck parts and remanufacturing operations in Evansville and surrounding communities near Casper. Nextant Aerospace receives FAA certification for the 400XT, the world's first completely remanufactured business jet

Nextant Aerospace, which introduced the concept of remanufacturing to the business jet market, announced that it has received Federal Aviation Administration certification for its Nextant 400XT aircraft, the world's first completely remanufactured business jet. The FAA certification is the final step in the approval process for the 400XT, a plane that is the equivalent of a new jet at a cost approximately half that of competing models. The first retail deliveries of the planes will begin in October 2011, part of a 40-plane order from Flight Options, the nation's second-largest fractional jet company. More

UK supply chains risk resource scarcity unless they invest

The U.K. must invest in resource management and sustainable procurement if it is to avoid resource scarcity, according to an industry expert. Speaking at the LRS Consultancy network meeting in London on Sept. 29, Randles - who works for LRS - said that supply chains in the U.K. were "enormous and global", but warned that more research needed to be undertaken into how long resources were going to last.
