President's Budget Takes Swing at New Revenues, Entitlement Reform & LIFO Repeal

This week, President Barack Obama introduced his budget proposal for fiscal year 2014. Unlike the so-called budgets that are making their way through the House and Senate, but are not required to receive his signature, the President's budget is required to pass Congress in order to fund the federal government's operations. Also included are proposals to reform the tax code, address entitlements and increase revenue by eliminating a number of provisions.More

World Vision to Present Crystal Vision Award at KBIS 2013

The Storehouse of World Vision will present its 13th annual Crystal Vision Award at KBIS 2013 in New Orleans. The Storehouse of World Vision is a network of six warehouses that receive donated goods — including building materials, school supplies, personal care items, and clothing — from corporate partners and annually distributes them to more than 2.2 million people in low-income communities. The Storehouse's Crystal Vision Award, presented annually to a vendor who has gone above and beyond in their donations and charitable activities, will be presented Saturday, April 20, as part of KBIS 2013 during a luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. at the Earnest L. February Wholesale Trade Revenues Up 1.7% from January

Wholesale trade revenues in February were $422.5 billion, up 1.7% from January and up 3.7% from February 2012, according to The U.S. Census Bureau. February sales of durable goods were up 0.4% from the prior month and were up 2% from a year ago. Sales of computer and computer peripheral equipment and software were up 2.3% from last month, while sales of electrical and electronic goods were down 2.3%.More

Construction Jobs Rise for 10th Month in a Row to Three-Year High

Construction industry employment climbed for the tenth consecutive month in March, as the sector added 18,000 jobs and surpassed 5.8 million employees for the first time since September 2009, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials cautioned that the industry soon may experience both layoffs for some skilled trades and shortages of others, unless policymakers boost infrastructure investment and allow importation of needed workers.More
