ASA on the Road for Annual Blitz
American Supply Association
This week, the American Supply Association’s staff members divided into five teams for its sixth-annual blitz. The teams will have visited about 70 companies, including members and new member prospects throughout the Southeast and Ohio River Valley. Each team is meeting with the leaders of distributor and manufacturing companies for in-depth conversations about the benefits that ASA offers and to help them understand how to best leverage the association’s programs and services. Since launching this annual campaign five years ago, ASA staff will have personally visited 345 companies, bringing ASA to the doorstep of current and potential member companies in 44 states.

ASA staff visits Engineering & Equipment in Albany, GA and Park Supply in Huntsville, AL.

Steel & Copper Markets Poised For Disruption
ASA Materials Market Digest©
According to one story that appeared in the March 11, 2017, edition of The Economist, new technologies could slash the cost of steel production. The method is low-cost, demands much less footprint than a modern steel plant and is based on an old technique devised more than a century ago but impractical to implement until now. A second story in the same edition predicts a huge increase in copper demand is looming thanks to a burgeoning market for electric vehicles and storage batteries. If this comes to pass, the price of copper may go through the roof given widespread forecasts of a global production deficit in the coming years.
