ASA Education Foundation's Keystone Course, Essentials of Profitable Wholesale Distribution©, Gets Online Treatment

The ASA Education Foundation's popular course, Essentials of Profitable Wholesale Distribution©, is now available in a new and online format. This course, also available in printed copy, has been fully converted into ASAU Online, the foundation's learning management system that delivers interactive training to the industry. The Essentials online course is a four-hour, interactive program divided into 11 lessons. Each lesson includes quizzes and activities that provide a solid grounding in the basics of distribution economics, customer service, sales and marketing. The advantage of the new ASAU Online format is that the lesson now fully engages the learner, elevating the capacity to understand and retain the training.More

US Manufacturing Grows for 13th Straight Month

U.S. manufacturing expanded in August for the 13th straight month, lifting hopes that economic growth won't stall. The Institute for Supply Management said its manufacturing index rose to 56.3 in August from 55.5 in July. A reading above 50 indicates growth. Manufacturing has helped lead the economy out of the worst recession since the 1930s. The trade group's index has surged since late 2009 and hit a six-year high in April. But as economic growth has slowed this summer, expansion in the manufacturing sector has leveled off.More

Remembering Bill Abeling

ASA received the sad news of the passing of William J. Abeling, co-founder of longtime ASA member Consumers Pipe and Supply in Southern California. Bill had a long and successful career in the Pipe Valve & Fitting industry. Bill died peacefully on Sept. 7 at Intercommunity Hospital in Covina, Calif., at age 83. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking any donations go to the Doheny Eye Institute, 1450 San Pablo St., Los Angeles, CA 90033-4666.More
