E-Fairness Update — Senate Movement Taking Shape
American Supply Association
This week, over 400 independent businesses, including more than 65 from ASA and thousands more through state, regional and national industry associations wrote to Congress urging passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act. While news reports this week announced House Speaker Boehner's opposition to moving such legislation, we remain undeterred and optimistic, given the Senate's plans to take up Internet taxation as early as next week. ASA should be proud of its members for not only signing their names in support of E-Fairness, but beginning this week, many will also be submitting a letter to the editor of their local newspaper and appearing in online advertisements calling on Congress to act. ASA members should also be on the lookout for more ways that they can reach out to their elected officials in the coming days. To see our letters click here and here.More

By the Numbers: Superior Leadership Produces Higher Return than Superior Talent
Decades ago the sage Peter Drucker was talking about his work as a consultant to large organizations. He noted that senior executives would invariably tell him their organization had attracted extremely talented people, and this accounted for their success. He then went out to meet these extraordinary people. After meeting with many people throughout the organization, he came back to the senior people and told them that their work force did not seem significantly different from all the others that he'd encountered.
