Potential International Standard For Water Efficient Products
American Supply Association
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a New Work Item Proposal to develop an international standard for Water Efficient Products – Test Requirements, Water Efficiency Banding to indicate water efficiency of water-using fittings and appliances, for consumer labelling and other purposes, based on relevant standards and requirements from Australia and supporting countries and other ISO members’ national standards. The first step in the process is for member countries to ISO to submit a position on whether the proposal should be approved or not. Comments on the proposal need to be submitted to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) by December 8, 2017; ANSI is the U.S. representative to ISO. Please click here to review the proposal. ASA members may submit comments to Jim Kendzel, Director of Codes and Standards at jkendzel@asa.net.More

OSHA Delays Reporting Requirements: New Date is December 15, 2017
American Supply Association
Last week, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced a delay for employers that must report electronically injury and illness data through the Injury Tracking Application (ITA) to December 15, 2017. Regrettably, OSHA has said that a more substantial delay is not needed, noting that the collection of 2016 Form 300A is currently underway. They intend to issue a separate proposal to reconsider, revise, or remove other provisions of the prior final rule and to seek comment on those provisions in that proposal. Additionally, OSHA believes that the four months from the launch date of August 1, 2017, to the new delayed deadline of December 15, 2017, provide ample time for employers to submit their 2016 data and for the agency to conduct additional outreach to employers to inform them of their obligations. While there is not any further change to the underlying rule requirements or the requirements in the preamble, there is an extension in which to file the 300A logs. We anticipate a notice of proposed rulemaking early in 2018 and will bring you more information as we receive it. See the full notice here.More

Avoid Locking in Costs at Top of Price Cycle
ASA Advisor©
Increasing commodity prices are supporting rise in wholesale trade of both durable goods (up 5.9%) and nondurable goods (up 6.3%). However, analysts with ITR Economics expect commodity prices to enter the backside of the business cycle in 2018. Natural gas prices will plateau during the next few quarters. Crude oil and steel prices will likely peak by early 2018. Flat or falling prices will contribute to slowing the pace of growth for wholesale trade next year along with slowing the ascent in the volume of wholesale trade. Avoid locking in costs at the top of the price cycle. Log in to MY ASA to access ASA’s latest macroeconomic forecast report for the PHCP-PVF industry.More
