ASA, Business Groups 'Dig in' for 2018 Infrastructure Push
American Supply Association
This week, as the House, Senate and White House gear up for a compressed, election-year session, the business community is urging them to tackle our aging infrastructure. Seen as a potential win-win, putting folks in the trades and heavy construction to work improving our transportation systems we all need to reliably bring products to our customers. When ASA met with the White House last fall, the discussion largely centered our on our workforce needs, specific to rebuilding infrastructure. The White House shared with us their goals, such as improving the permitting process, identifying transformative projects, and incentivizing participants that can raise funds to match federal funding. Pace of Growth for Corporate Profits is Diminishing
ASA Advisor©
Sales for ASA’s PHPC-PVF wholesaler-distributors during the 12 months through November were 6.8 percent above the year-ago level. According to analysts with ITR Economics, sales will grow at an accelerating rate into early 2018. Expansion will persist through 2019, but the pace of rise will slow during this time. Increasing corporate profits are providing firms with additional resources to invest in wholesale goods, and ASA members are likely benefiting from this trend. However, the pace of growth for corporate profits is diminishing following a late-2016 peak. This indicator typically leads company sales by about 18 months, suggesting that sales for ASA member distributors will transition to a slowing growth trend by the middle of 2018. Ensure that budgets reflect diminishing rise through the second half of 2018 and the majority of 2019. Linear budgeting will pose a risk to ASA members during this time.
