Business Groups Reassert Need to Level Playing Field
American Supply Association
With tax reform increasingly appearing out of reach, business groups are pivoting toward more achievable legislative fixes in 2014. One such fix is the Marketplace Fairness Act. For more than 20 years, the playing field has been uneven; enabling online sellers to unfairly discount their prices and putting brick-and-mortar businesses such as ASA's members at a disadvantage. This week, the Marketplace Fairness Coalition, of which ASA is a steering committee member, wrote to House Judiciary Chairman Goodlate, reiterating our call for action in 2014. As our letter states: "...legislation that levels the playing field while establishing important protections for businesses and consumers will ensure a healthy and competitive marketplace for decades to come. We believe it is crucial for Congress to address this problem this year to protect millions of jobs." See our full letter.

Beschloss: Has 'Europeanization' of America's Workforce Ratio Endangered Future of US Economic Growth?
The Desert News
A little-known and less-discussed relationship between America's working age people per elderly persons has revealed that this deteriorating ratio has greatly accelerated. While the U.S. retained a healthy lead over the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan in 2008, and the subsequent election of the Obama administration, that gap is significantly narrowing, and will show a diminution in the number of working age people available to support their elders.
