At Long Last, December 2010 Revenues Surpass 2008

For the third consecutive quarter and eighth consecutive month, the plumbing, heating and pipe, valve and fittings distributors have reported increased and growing revenues, showing a 6.7 percent improvement in per-workday revenues during the month of December 2010 as compared to the same month in 2009, and — for the first time this year — up 1.9 percent against 2008. These distributors are now ahead of last previous year to date by 2.6 percent on a per-day basis. As there was one additional workday in November 2010 than in 2009, and the same as 2008, the raw monthly revenues for the industry members were up 11.5 percent for the month vs. 2009, and up 1.1 percent as compared to two years ago. Congressional Vote on Health Care Law

After a week when Congress put its business on hold following the tragic shootings in Tucson, Ariz., the House of Representatives returns to carry out one of its most high-profile campaign promises. In the run-up to the State of the Union, as Congress reemerges with increasing calls for more civility and constructive debate, divisive, unfinished business remains. Emboldened by their 60-seat gains in the House, congressional Republicans voted on Wednesday to repeal last year's health care law by a vote of 245-189. Uncertain what its fate is in the Senate, the House held a largely symbolic vote to demonstrate its ongoing opposition to this law. Repeal is just one step however, on the campaign trail; it often was followed with the word "replace." Now that they have been given a greater opportunity to govern, House Republicans have the responsibility to put forth their ideas and let Americans decide if these are changes that will improve our existing health care system. More

100 More ... Homes for Our Troops

America has been at war since 2001. During that time, 2 million of our nation's sons and daughters have answered the call of duty. More than 5,000 of these brave men and women have been killed. Nearly 35,000 have suffered physical injuries. Of those 35,000, some have paid a terrible price, suffering injuries so severe that they must rely on others for care, losing much of their independence. These severely injured veterans have a desperate need for specially adapted homes that will help restore the independence they have lost. During the week of Veterans Day 2010, ASA's select charitable partner, Homes for Our Troops, launched the 100 More ... Homes for Our Troops campaign. In the last six years, Homes for Our Troops has committed to giving back freedom and independence to 100 military families, building and donating more than 70 of these adapted homes with the remainder in various stages of construction and slated for completion over the next several months thanks to many wonderful corporations and volunteers. However, the number of eligible applicants continues to grow. Estimates of veterans who have injuries so severe that they are in need of an adapted home number more than 1,000. With America's support, Homes for Our Troops can build specially adapted homes for all of them. More
