ASA Leadership Looks to Expand Member Ability
American Supply Association

John Welles (Apollo Valves) presents his breakout
group's suggested plan and adjustments to the
strategic goals for the next few years.
Last week, more than 70 volunteer leaders representing ASA's various committees, executive councils and special interest divisions met at the ASA’s Winter Leadership Meeting to discuss strategic goals and objectives that will continue to expand the association’s role and value to the industry. "Each year, this meeting is a great catalyst for advancing our ability as a national trade association and is always a great opportunity for the volunteer leaders to roll up their sleeves and jump in," said ASA Executive Vice President Mike Adelizzi, "Not only did we finalize the overall objectives for 2016, but leadership looked at expanding the role and value of ASA’s business intelligence and forecasting, impacting codes and standards, as well as engaging more of the industry in advocacy.” ASA and its members look forward to another strong year and a potential 5th consecutive year of net membership growth.

The Undereducated Workforce: Plenty of Jobs — Too Few Workers
The Gordon Report
Does the 4.9 percent U.S. unemployment rate of January 2016 show a continuing jobs recovery? Many Americans don't think so. They feel themselves victims of mass unemployment in the midst of a continuing recession. Currently, 95 million Americans have given up looking for a job. Of these, 45 million are capable of being employed, including 6 million retirees who still want to work. Also, there are 20 million people working part-time who are seeking full-time employment. Americans are confused, worried, and angry about this. They know that the U.S. economy is not working for them as it once was, and they don't understand why.

Online Sales Tax Supporters Hope Gamble Pays Off
The Hill
Supporters of online sales tax legislation have been promised a vote in the Senate this year, but the timing is vague and House consideration is uncertain. To secure consideration of the online sales tax bill known as the Marketplace Fairness Act, advocates traded away one of their major bargaining chips by allowing a separate long-term ban on local Internet access taxes to go forward. There is no guarantee the tactic will pay off amid a condensed election-year schedule, but advocates are bullish, nonetheless. And they are putting pressure on the House to deliver.

Young Professionals Collaborate for Success

The Chairman of the Young Executives Division, Rogers Earl Jr., attributes a lot of his success in the industry to the YE's and the annual Spring Forum. "The YE Spring Forum’s educational aspect has provided me with the skill set necessary for my advancement from project manager, to branch management, and to my current position as CEO. The relationships I’ve made at the YE Spring Forum have helped me to navigate the company through the recession as well as taught me how to strategize, communicate with others, and stay focused on the end goals. Without these relationships and valuable education, I would still be a project manager at Valley Supply Company." REGISTER NOW
