Chairmen to ASA "We need your help to stop this"
American Supply Association
This week, ASA joined with other concerned industries to meet with Ways and Means Committee chairman and Trade Subcommittee Chairman (Kevin Brady and Dave Reichert) on the looming trade war as a result of tariffs on steel and aluminum. The tax-writing leaders are preparing a letter to the president advising him against going forward with this and proposing various solutions, such as real-time exclusions, exempting items that are already traded fairly and more. Like ASA, they pointed to the progress made on tax reform and regulatory relief, which could be undone if we go ahead with tariffs. They need your help. They are leading an effort to write President Trump and need as many signatures on their letter as possible. Continue writing to the White House along with writing your elected representatives and let them know how important this is to your company.

Focus on Employee Retention to Mitigate Hiring & Training Challenges

Maintaining your existing labor supply will allow you to save on hiring and training costs. However, you should look for creative and less costly methods to improve workplace culture and climate and increase productivity. Trade War Clouds Gather
ASA Materials Market Digest©
President Trump’s announcement on March 1st that he would impose a 25.0 percent tariff on steel imports sparked predictable reactions from business interests. Domestic steel producers cheered the findings, while many of their customers cried foul as of course did steel importers. Many analysts doubt the tariffs would have the desired effect. One point of view holds that domestic steel companies will use the tariffs to lift their prices by about the same amount, retaining a significant price spread compared with imported steel. A bigger, mounting fear is retaliation by other countries, resulting in an all-out trade war along with conflict with the World Trade Organization (WTO). American farmers might be especially hard hit by retaliatory sanctions against U.S. agricultural exports. Visit MY ASA for the latest and archived installments of ASA’s Materials Market Digest©.
