Walworth Supports ASA IPD Open House
American Supply Association    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The ASA Industrial Piping Division Open House, held annually at NetworkASA, continues to grow in membership and support. Joining as a sponsor for this year's event, held Sept. 15 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, is Walworth Valves. Walworth is a leading company in industrial valve manufacture for fluid control with facilities in Mexico, the USA and China. Walworth has all parts of the world within its reach, meeting the supply and demand of global customers. Walworth was founded in 1842 as a company at which the employees have a vast amount of experiences and dedication. Their personnel have kept them on the leading edge of design and innovation since that time. ASA thanks Walworth for their support — not only as an IPD Open House Sponsor, but for contributing to something that touches all of our lives. After all, the first two-way telephonic conversation took place thanks to Walworth's collaboration. Alexander Graham Bell requested permission of Walworth to use the telegraph thread and try to establish a conversation. The experiment was a success. See what else they can do. American Supply Association    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This week, ASA, along with the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace and hundreds of employer groups, filed comments asking that the Department of Labor withdraw its seriously flawed proposed rule that would diminish employer access to legal counsel and employees' ability to hear important information from their employers. The rule in question would eliminate decades-old exemptions to disclosure requirements for advice and legal counsel. This would force employers and their attorneys to disclose sensitive financial details, even if an employer's attorney or hired consultants do not directly interact with employees. The rule is so broad in scope that simply attendance at certain seminars would trigger the onerous reporting requirement. More

Copper futures steadied Sept. 29 after the previous day's drop to 13-month lows, as better-than-expected readings on the U.S. economy and guarded optimism about Europe's debt crisis paused the metal's recent selloff. The most actively traded copper contract, for December delivery, recently traded 2.05 cents, or 0.6 percent, higher, to $3.262 a pound on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. More

Could 'Manufacturing's Secret Shift' Bring Jobs Back to America?
IndustryWeek    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Between 2008 and 2010, BMW AG spent $1 billion to beef up its U.S. infrastructure, which included a 1.2 million-square-foot expansion of its Spartanburg, S.C., manufacturing facility. During that time, BMW also expanded its U.S. headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and built two new regional distribution centers in the United States, showing its "deep commitment to the U.S. and its people," in the words of Chairman Norbert Reithofer. "The U.S. will remain the world's largest premium market for the foreseeable future, and we intend to participate in the expected growth with the expansion of our activities here," Reithofer said in October 2010.
