Tax Reform Passes Congress!
American Supply Association
Not since 1986, has comprehensive tax reform been signed into law. It’s been attempted and widely discussed, but has failed each and every time, until now. As our letter states, while not every favored credit, deduction or exemption was addressed, this law achieves reforms not seen in generations. ASA worked with a number of groups to achieve our goals, the goals of those we represent in Washington. From manufacturers in NAM’s Tax and Budget Policy Committee to the NAW’s Save LIFO Coalition to the S Corps Association and the Family Business Coalition, we worked together representing diverse, yet similar positions to get this done. The work continues as this new law sunsets in 2025, making each election a referendum on changing or preserving our new tax code. See our letters of support here and here.

Builder Confidence Ends 2017 on a High Note
Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes increased five points to 74 in December on the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) after a downwardly revised November reading. This was the highest report since July 1999, over 18 years ago.

Each spring, we ask you to come to Washington to advocate for issues important to our industry and your business. It seems as if this quest goes back to the time George W. Bush was in office, with key stakeholders in ASA making one simple, yet continuous request: Please do not touch LIFO. The years of relationship building, letters, emails and visits to Congress have worked, comprehensive tax reform has passed, leaving intact your ability to use the Last-in, First-out method of accounting. When we met with tax-writers on Monday, one thing they assured us is that the IRS and Dept. of Treasury have been busy, and will continue to be as this becomes law. As every CFO and H.R. specialist knows, these changes will be significant and time-consuming. Rest assured that ASA will continue to bring you the information you need as this law is implemented in the New Year. Don’t forget to save the date of April 18-19 to join us again in Washington as we continue the quest!

Another Solid Performance by PHCP-PVF Distributors in November
American Supply Association
ASA’s Monthly Pulse Report provides a regular snapshot of performance for the PHCP-PVF industry. For the month ending November 30, 2017, wholesaler-distributors reported a median sales increase of 8.0% compared to the same month in 2016. Calendar year-to-date, all respondents reported median sales growth of 6.1%, and the median increase for the trailing twelve months was 6.4%. Inventory rose 6.0% compared to prior year, and the median three-months' average days sales outstanding edged up from 43.1 days in October to 43.6 days. 40.0% of the respondents reported an increase in gross margin percentages for the month of November, 2017, versus 2016, and company YTD profit before taxes increased for 65.8% of the total sample. The percentage of respondents having more Full-Time Equivalent employees compared to a year ago increased from 60.7% in October to 62.5% in November. LEARN MORE
