ASA Members Report Profitability Increases Fueled by Strong Revenue Growth

American Supply Association members have reported growth for the ninth consecutive month, showing an 11.1 percent improvement in per work day revenues during the month of January 2011 as compared to the same month in 2010. The plumbing, heating and pipe, valve and fitting distributors are now ahead of the last previous 12 rolling months by 4.7 percent. The distributors are indicating margins are remaining about the same as a year ago and inventories have seen a robust growth of 4.4 percent, by far the largest we have seen in the previous several years. ASA Meets with Omni Buying Group Members

Earlier this month, ASA was invited to attend the Omni Spring Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz. Represented by Patrick Osborne of the ASA Education Foundation, ASA's presence further marked the collaboration between the two groups highlighted by the cooperative agreement between ASA and Omni signed last year. During the week, Patrick was able to share with members the value of ASA membership, the progress the association has made in important advocacy issues and ongoing training development, as well as the positive impact the suite of benchmarking reports has had for participating companies. ASA Safety Committee Unveils New Safety Award

ASA Safety Committee Chairman Ricky Bryant (NIBCO Inc.) has announced that the association currently is seeking nominations for a new industry safety recognition award that will highlight ASA member efforts to achieve safety excellence. At the same time, the award provides an opportunity to remind member companies of the importance of safety to their own company goals, including financial targets. The new award will help to elevate awareness of the importance of safety in all aspects of the industry. In addition, the award will recognize members that have the lowest incident rate of non-fatal occupational injuries and illnesses. More

ASA, UPA Partner to Advance Industry Issues

Realizing that a coordinated effort between all industry participants is needed to advance issues of critical importance to the long-term health of the industry, the American Supply Association has entered into a formal working relationship with members of United Purchasing Affiliates. "Two vital ASA long range goals have guided the association's move to sign agreements with buying groups," said Mike Adelizzi, ASA's executive vice president. "First is to engage everyone in the industry to aid in the fight to protect industry interests in Washington, D.C., and secondly is the need to elevate the professionalism of the industry. ASA's ability to achieve both goals is enhanced through the buying groups because of their close working relationship with a broad cross section of wholesaler and manufacturers and their ability to motivate their members to take action." More


ASA Writes House Leadership Urging Against Cuts Affecting PHCP, PVF Industries

Last week, as the Continuing Resolution made its way through the House, ASA joined with others in the building industry urging against a massive cut that would go toward rehabilitating government buildings. At a time when our industry continues to work its way back to times of prosperity, cutting funding for essential repairs only will serve to prolong needed restoration at a higher cost to the taxpayer. With more than 8,600 buildings under its management across the country, the General Services Administration controls a wide range of facility design, construction, rehabilitation, restoration, renovation and operations projects in communities throughout the country. More

Executive search and recruitment firm Brook Chase Associates Inc. recently contacted more than 31,000 industry professionals for its annual State of the Building Materials Industry Survey.
