Women in Industry 'Dress for Success'

Records were broken when more than 130 attendees took part in ASA’s Women in Industry Third Annual Spring Conference featuring educational speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities. Some of the featured topics included Creating Your Own Success, Change Intelligence, Leading Teams, Play Like a Man-Win Like a Woman, Creating Value, Casting and Communicating Vision, and a Panel Discussion from Women in various phases of their careers in the industry. The ASA Women in Industry also introduced two new programs at this year’s event, a partnership with Dress for Success and a new Mentoring Program. In all, the Spring Conference was a huge success and plans are already underway for next year’s event.

Once again, the sales tax collection battle centers on South Dakota, which can assuredly find itself back in the Supreme Court. Regardless of how the courts rule, this issue still requires Congress to act and write the rules of the road. Without Congress acting, small businesses are at risk of being left unprotected and fail to gain other simplifications that the Remote Transactions Parity Act brings with it.

White House Weighs Overtime Rule Changes

The White House has some big decisions to make before signing off on the Labor Department’s widely contested rule to expand overtime pay, one of the biggest regulatory initiatives of President Obama’s second term. Industry and nonprofit groups are pushing back against several aspects of the rule, including the proposed salary maximum for earning overtime pay, the annual adjustment rate for overtime wages and the deadline for businesses to comply.
