Software Advice    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

If you find yourself wondering what a pull principle is, you've come to the right place. Put simply, assembly line manufacturers historically pushed mass production ahead based on estimates of future demand, which often resulted in wasted effort and resources when customers failed to produce the estimated demand. Remembering Milt Miller, Founder of Early NCWA
American Supply Association    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The PHCP industry recently lost one of its innovators and pioneers with the death of Milt Miller on July 22. Milt was one of the founders of Tri-State Distributors Association, which eventually became ASA regional affiliate North Central Wholesalers Association. After serving in the Army during World War II, Milt returned to civilian life to join his father, Sam, and brother, David, in a family business, now known as Trumbull Industries Inc. There, as vice president in 1950 and then as president in 1955, he would lead the company's growth from its local origins as a plumbing supply house into a regional operation that also included municipal materials, cabinets, industrial and piping supplies. In 1983, Supply House Times recognized Milt and Dave Miller as being among the 25 wholesalers who most influenced the industry during the past quarter century. Milt was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Fleck, and his wife Laura. He is survived by his wife Bobbie, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., whom he married Aug. 28, 2001, his brother, David (Marilyn) Miller and his three children, Murray (Betty) Miller, Donna (Larry) Kun and Sam H. (Rochelle) Miller. The family requests that contributions may be made to Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, Youngstown, OH 44505, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. More

Dave Barry on Supply Management
ISM    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Dave Barry is probably a familiar name. In 1988, he won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary. For 25 years, he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. He has written more than 30 books, two of which were used as the basis for the sitcom "Dave's World." He also plays lead guitar in a literary rock band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose other members include Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson and Mitch Albom. What he's not, however, is an expert on supply management. He's also pretty foggy on the notion of sustainability as it pertains to the supply chain. More
