Any 232 Celebration is Premature
ASA Materials Market Digest©
Being a story largely buried in the business media and an investigation without an apparent timetable, many have come to believe the tariff threat has passed. Some analysts say the delay reflects not so much a loss of interest but rather the sheer complexity of the investigation. Testimony has been collected from a myriad of business interests that would be either protected or harmed by steel tariffs. Predictably, no consensus has been reached. By law, Commerce has 270 days to complete its report, which extends to January, 2018. Any celebration, one way or another, is premature. Visit MY ASA for the latest and archived installments of ASA’s Materials Market Digest©.

American Supply Association

Neupert of Consolidated Supply Co., in Portland, Ore., challenged the industry to establish a $10 million fund for the purpose of developing quality training — ensuring ASA members’ employees would be the best-trained for generations to come. To date, the Karl E. Neupert Endowment Fund has grown to more than $12 million and has been essential to the amount of support ASA offers members in training and education programs. Through the generous support of this fund came the creation and delivery of ASA University, a five-college structure with a role-based approach to development. ASA-U is the industry standard for training.
