New Look ASA Website Launched

Next spring, ASA and its independent regional affiliates will release a comprehensive employee and executive compensation report. This will be the first time since 2010 that this kind of data will be available for the PHCP and industrial PVF wholesale-distribution channel. Data collection will begin in early January, and ALL wholesaler members will receive a copy of the final report in exchange for completing the survey questionnaire — at no fee. Medical Devices: What's Taxed, What Isn't

Among the moving parts in talks over the government shutdown is a 2.3% excise tax on medical devices sold in the U.S. that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The tax, long opposed by the medical-device industry, was intended to raise money to help pay for new insurance coverage for millions of people under President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act. Estimated to garner about $30 billion over the next 10 years, the medical-device law went into effect this past January.

Delta Faucet Announces Full Lead-Free Compliance

Products offered under the Delta Faucet Company brand portfolio are now 100% compliant with upcoming low lead legislation requirements, according to guidelines set forth by the federal "Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act" (S. 3874). The new law mandates the weighted average lead content in pipes, fittings and fixtures used to convey drinking water cannot exceed 0.25% on wetted surfaces. As of June 1, only low lead compliant Delta, Brizo and Peerless products have been shipped to customers.

Hollow-Tube Steel: An Effective Weapon in the War Against Corrosion

Perhaps the most villainous enemies of commercial building projects are the two most basic elements of our environment: air and water. Moisture in the air is enough to begin the process of corrosion because, as the Tao Te Ching recorded more than 2,000 years ago, "Water wears away stone." In response, urban planners have deployed a material that has shown some promising results as an inhibitor to oxidation. Sites around the world, from France to Japan, have successfully used hollow-tube steel in construction projects, and some have lasted for decades in extremely corrosive environments.

Manufacturers Optimistic Despite Regulatory Pressures

Despite rising concerns about legislative and regulatory pressures, optimism among U.S. industrial manufacturers regarding the global economic outlook reached the highest level since the first quarter of 2012, according to the Q3 2013 Manufacturing Barometer,just released by PwC US. In the third quarter of 2013, 40% of respondents expressed optimism regarding the world economy for the next 12 months, up from 31 percent in the prior quarter and 29% from the third quarter of 2012.
