ASA Continues Presence at Industry Buying Groups

Last week, the American Supply Association took another step in solidifying its partnership with Affiliated Distributors to advance advocacy, business intelligence, education and networking for the PHCP and PVF industry. Mike Adelizzi, Doug Dillon and Chris Murin manned an ASA booth at A-D's 2014 PHCP North American Meeting in Dallas, to meet face-to-face and provide more information to members and prospective members alike. "ASA enjoys a strong partnership with Affiliated Distributors, and this meeting is a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase the association's accomplishments and new initiatives to more than 250 wholesalers and suppliers in just a few days," said Michael Adelizzi, ASA's Executive Vice President.

Essentials of Profitable Warehouse Operations© Goes Global Again
American Supply Association
It's that time of year; Christmas appears in stores and Bob Footlik's students are ready for their Essentials of Profitable Warehouse Operations© final exam. Since 2009, students in Footlik's Industrial Technology and Management courses at the Illinois Institute of Technology have been using the Essentials of Profitable Warehouse Operations© to learn about warehouse operations. This year, his 16 international students from Korea, Guatemala, China, India, Pakistan, Brazil, France and Spain, along with two American-born, fully employed Internet students are taking the final exam in parallel with their class work.

ASA Releases Monthly Pulse Report for October
American Supply Association
ASA member wholesaler-distributors reported a median sales growth of 6.9% for the month ending Oct. 31, compared to the same month last year. Calendar year-to-date, all respondents reported a median sales increase of 5.1%, with 5.0% and 4.7% increases in the PHCP and industrial PVF segments, respectively. For the trailing 12 months, respondents reported a median sales increase of 5.2% for PHCP distributors and 4.7% for PVF distributors. Not long ago, the typical warehouse operated eight hours per day and five days per week. That was a normal business schedule, and nobody expected warehousing to be any different. Today, many distribution operations operate with a 24/7 schedule, and warehouses that work only 40 hours are increasingly rare. Most of our ideas about scheduling people in distribution centers are monuments to the short two centuries of our industrial age. Yet, for most of human history, eight-hour work schedules were not common at all.
