ASA has partnered with The Storehouse of World Vision as one of the association’s recognized charitable organizations. Storehouse is a 501(c)3 dedicated to supporting millions of Americans who live in unsafe and inadequate housing. Some of the families served by World Vision spend more than 70 percent of their income on housing; leaving no money for home repairs even when the health and safety of their families are in jeopardy.

MwDA Told Slow Growth to Continue

It's like the sign in certain bars announcing, "Free Beer Tomorrow." Almost as whimsically, economists keep predicting a strong recovery in the last half of the coming year. "The recovery keeps getting pushed back," said Michael Halloran, Senior Research Analyst for Process Controls with R.W. Baird Co., keynote speaker at the Midwest Distributors Association's 2013 Annual Meeting & Dinner on Nov. 18 at football legend Mike Ditka's west suburban Chicago restaurant in Oak Brook Terrace. He told the packed audience to expect only a "slight acceleration of growth" in 2014.

October Construction Employment Up in 39 States YOY

Construction employment increased in 39 states over the past 12 months, the most widespread gains since April 2012, according to an analysis of Labor Department data from the Associated General Contractors of America. "It is encouraging that three-quarters of the states are now adding construction jobs on a year-over-year basis," said Ken Simonson, the association's chief economist. "Employment increases are still intermittent in too many states, however, and nearly all states are far below their pre-recession highs."

How Walmart Plans to Bring Manufacturing Back to the United States
Walter Loeb writes, "In January at the National Retail Federation's annual convention Bill Simon, president, Walmart U.S., promised to bring back manufacturing to the United States. He promised that in 10 years $50 billion in goods would again be produced in the United States. It is a great project. It would create jobs and give a boost to the economy and also to national pride. It raises my hope that not everything will be produced overseas; that we have the ingenuity to produce products in mass in the United States."
