Lehman's Garage, a member of the Automotive Service Association (ASA), and Hennepin Technical College (HTC) have repaired and donated a 2004 Chevrolet Impala to a Minnesota family. The damaged vehicle was donated by an insurance company and repaired at Lehman's Garage in Chaska, Minn., by HTC students who were supervised by Lehman’s auto body and mechanical technicians.

Think, a Scandinavian electric-vehicle maker, will build its first car for the U.S. market in Indiana starting in 2011, the company's chief executive said. The Oslo-based company plans to sell its City subcompact car in the U.S. starting late next year by importing vehicles assembled in Finland. The import sales will be followed by U.S.-produced cars starting in early 2011, said Think CEO Richard Canny. Most automakers reported big sales gains in December as heavy advertising and promotions brought people into showrooms toward the end of the month. Ford Motor Co. and Subaru of America Inc. each reported that December sales rose 33 percent, and Hyundai sales rose by a torrid 40 percent. Access to repair information is at the heart of a debate over a congressional bill called the Right to Repair Act. Supporters of the proposal say automakers are trying to monopolize the parts and repair industry by only sharing crucial tools and data with their dealership shops. Opponents of the bill counter that the information and tools to repair the vehicles are available to those willing to buy them. Donny Seyfer, ASA member and owner of a repair shop in Wheat Ridge, Colo., said the bill gives the impression that mechanics are unable to fix cars unless Congress steps in. More |
