H.R. 3596, the Health Insurance Industry Antitrust Act, is tentatively scheduled to come to the House floor next week. Honda announced it is expanding a previously announced recall to replace an airbag inflator in an additional 379,000 U.S. vehicles. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers recently announced the results of the most
recent poll to determine the true need for the so-called Right to Repair bill. Commissioned by the Alliance, The Clarus Research Group surveyed 501 Massachusetts residents over the age of 18 who own or regularly use one car that is no longer covered by the original manufacturer's warranty to determine if in fact consumers found independent auto repairers unable to complete necessary automobile maintenance and repair work.

The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) has scheduled the Spring 2010 General Meeting for April 20 at the Meritage Resort in Napa, Calif. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Equipment and Tool Institute's ToolTech. "The Spring meeting is usually held in cooperation with the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit," said Charlie Gorman, NASTF chairman. "However, this year the SAE could not accommodate the meeting, so the leadership voted to move the meeting location to coincide with ToolTech." More

General Motors (GM) announced that repair parts for sticking accelerator pedals in the Pontiac Vibe will be shipped out to dealers this week. GM plans to mail letters to customers next week with instructions to contact their Pontiac dealers after Feb. 22 to have the precision-cut steel reinforcement bar inserted in the pedal, the company said.
