Software provider ZoomSafer has announced the launch of a new hands-free service that enables voice-based access to text and e-mail. The new VoiceMate service audibly alerts the driver when e-mail or text messages are received from prioritized contacts. By touching a single key on his or her phone, the driver can listen to, and accurately respond to, text and e-mail messages using just his or her voice. Chrysler and Fiat will produce a plug-in electric version of the Fiat 500 in 2012, the first electric vehicle to be marketed under the two companies' alliance. The powertrain will feature a lithium-ion battery connected with an electric-vehicle control unit to manage flow of power to the engine. Every part of the vehicles, except the powertrain, will be assembled in Toluca, Mexico, where Chrysler is launching gasoline-engine versions of the Fiat 500 later this year. More

The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs quickly passed on March 22 Chairman Christopher Dodd's, D-Conn., "Restoring American Financial
Stability Act of 2010" along party lines. The bill now goes to the Senate floor where the bill is expected to be challenged with amendments by Senate Republicans.

Infiniti has already made it clear that it will bring an electric car to market and according to recent reports, the luxury EV will be based on Nissan's upcoming Leaf electric car. Due out around 2014, the Infiniti version will be zero-emissions, but it won't be slow. By that time, Nissan/Infiniti plans that lithium-ion battery advancements should allow a range similar to the Leaf (roughly 100 miles), while offering improved performance. Currently, the Leaf is rated at 107 hp and 207 ft-lbs of torque. More

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor's Subcommittee on Workforce Protections held a hearing March 16 on "Protecting America's Workers Act: Modernizing OSHA Penalties" to discuss modernizing workplace health and safety penalties. The subcommittee discussed U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey's, D-Calif., legislation, H.R. 2067, Protecting America's Workers Act. The purpose
of H.R. 2067 is to amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act) to expand coverage under the act, increase whistleblowers and increase penalties for violators.
