KEPRTV-19 Washington    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

They often require several days of work and can cost thousands of dollars. "This happens every time we have a recession," said Douglas Wilson, technician, Tri-Cities Battery and Auto Repair, an ASA member-shop in Kennewick, Wash. More

Bloomberg via the Detroit Free-Press    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. auto sales will rise 20 percent in 2010, buoyed by pent-up demand and stronger credit markets, as the industry starts recovering from its worst year in almost three decades, a researcher said. Deliveries will climb to 12.4 million from 10.3 million in 2008, the Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research said Tuesday. U.S. sales were 13.2 million last year, after averaging 16.8 million this decade through 2007. More

Aftermarket Business    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Earlier this decade, the word “friend” became a verb in our lexicon, and the way we perceive business relationships was never the same. As digital social networking has skyrocketed into the public consciousness, auto parts distributors and repairers now have access to a vital avenue for marketing, sharing repair information and keeping track of industry colleagues. But these communities can be elusive, and there’s a fine line between engaging an audience and heaping an overabundance of marketing materials upon them. More

Future safety advances
CNN Money    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety first started performing its own front crash tests in the mid-1990s, about half the vehicles scored "marginal" or "poor." Today, cars perform so well on the frontal offset crash test that the Institute will no longer bother testing them on a routine basis. Of the 106 current vehicle designs the Institute has tested, 88 earned the top rating of "good." None are rated as "poor," the worst of the four possible ratings. Another chance for small business loans?
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When President Barack Obama met with banking CEOs earlier this week, he urged them to "take a third and fourth look" at small businesses that they had rejected for loans during the year. The question is, will the banks follow through? Several banking giants recently announced more generous small-business loan targets for 2010. Bank of America offered to increase its lending to small- and medium-sized businesses by $5 billion next year. Separately, JPMorgan Chase set its small-business lending goal at $10 billion, while Wells Fargo, the nation's largest small business lender, said it would lend up to a whopping $16 billion in 2010.
