EPA Offers Waterborne Coatings Webinar July 14

Fiat Signs Agreement with China's GAC

Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne signed an agreement today with state-owned Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. to produce cars in a joint venture beginning in the second half of 2011 as Fiat seeks to expand its position in the growing Chinese market. Marchionne signed the deal with GAC Group chairman Zhang Fangyou in the presence of Premier Silvio Berlusconi and Chinese President Hu Jintao, who were meeting ahead of the Group of Eight summit, which begins Wednesday in the central Italian city of L'Aquila. Driving a Better Bargain

It may end up being great for the environment. It will certainly make some car dealers very happy. But that Cash for Clunkers bill just signed by President Obama may not be the sweet deal that consumers were awaiting. True, the new program offers to pay $3,500 or $4,500 for old, gas-guzzling cars and trucks that are traded in for new, more efficient vehicles. Add that cash to the new-car sales-tax deduction that was in February's stimulus bill, and it looks like the government is making a car deal you can't refuse. More    E-mail article

Auto Parts Maker Lear Corp. Files for Chapter 11

Automotive parts supplier Lear Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection after receiving support from lenders and bondholders to reorganize its struggling business. The move had been expected from the maker of vehicle seats and electronics, which missed an interest payment on its bond debt last week and revealed its intention to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors. The Southfield, Mich.-based company made the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. More    E-mail article
