ADA comments on Senate dental bill
American Dental Association
"Access to dental care is a multifaceted problem and we appreciate that the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2013 recognizes this and that no single solution will eliminate it," the American Dental Association told Sen. Sanders, sponsor of S. 1522, in a letter commenting on access, coverage, education, research and workforce provisions in the bill. The letter includes ADA comments on provisions relating to Medicaid, Medicare, the National Health Service Corps, community health centers, dental clinics, dental education, hospital emergency rooms, research funding, mobile dental services, residency programs, student loans and federal dental services including the Indian Health Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense and Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Tooth preservation or implant placement: A systematic review of long-term tooth and implant survival rates
The Journal of the American Dental Association
Researchers conducted a systematic review of long-term survival rates of teeth and implants. They searched the Medline database for relevant publications up to March 2013. They considered studies in which investigators assessed the long-term effectiveness of dental implants or that of tooth preservation. They included only studies that had follow-up periods of 15 years or longer.

Preservation of coronal tooth fragments prior to reattachment

A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of storing fragments in different storage media prior to reattachment. Data showed that preservation of the fractured tooth fragment in egg white or hypertonic solutions results in a higher strength of the bond between the restoration and the tooth as compared to storage in water or dried conditions.

Study: No helmet brand can save football players from concussion risk

Health experts have some bad news for high school football players: There is no particular type or brand of helmet or mouth guard that will keep you relatively safe from a concussion. The research team, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin, tracked 1,332 high school football players from 36 schools during the 2012 season. The researchers noted that their findings were "contrary to manufacturer claims" that specific equipment could protect football players from concussions, which occur approximately 40,000 times per year among high school players in the U.S.
