The American Hospital Association announced it has awarded an endorsement to WM Healthcare Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc., for integrated environmental services for healthcare. AHA Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of the AHA, awards endorsements to organizations that offer products and services to assist member hospitals and healthcare organizations achieve organizational excellence. Hospital employment climbs 0.04 percent in March

Employment at the nation's hospitals rose 0.04 percent in March to a seasonally adjusted 4,705,700 people, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. That's 1,900 more people than in February and 35,700 more than a year ago. More

    A lot of H1N1 vaccine people were clamoring for last fall is sitting unused in public health departments around the country. If not distributed by the time it expires, it will be medical waste. In Wisconsin about one-fifth of the population was inoculated against H1N1. The state's chief doctor, Seth Foldy, says there's still plenty of vaccine to go around, but demand has slowed. He says human behavior shows people want something more when there's a shortage, rather than an adequate supply as there is now with the H1N1 vaccine, which helps explain the lack of demand More

    Did 'regular' flu shot up risks for H1N1 flu?

    The traditional seasonal flu vaccine may have increased the risk of infection with pandemic H1N1 swine flu, according to the results of four new studies by Canadian researchers. In one study, the researchers used an ongoing sentinel monitoring system to assess the frequency of prior vaccination with the seasonal flu vaccine in people diagnosed with H1N1 swine flu in 2009 compared to people without swine flu. The researchers found that seasonal flu vaccination was associated with a 68 percent increased risk of getting swine flu. More
