Whose faith should rule in the ER, yours or the medical staff's?
USA TODAY    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In a hospital emergency room, whose religious freedom matters trumps someone else's beliefs? In the final ugly hours before the critical vote for the late health reform champion Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, accusations are flying. One of the newest comes from a conservative Catholic group that wants to see a Republican take the slot and, not coincidently, knock out the Democrats' filibuster-proof advantage in the Senate. Seniors struggle to rebound from unemployment
McClatchy Newspapers via The Philadelphia Inquirer    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
At age 69, Mario Gutierrez arrives at the Pepsi Bottling facility at 5 a.m. and ends his work day about 12 hours later. By the time he heads home, he has visited about a half dozen customers, buying one a cup of Cuban coffee or chatting with another about their sales. While traditional retirement age was four year ago, for Gutierrez it's not even in his near-term vision. "I feel satisfied," Gutierrez says. In many workplaces during the last year, older workers haven't fared as well as Gutierrez. More

Why diversity can backfire on company boards
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on
FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When it comes to corporate boards and diversity, the conventional wisdom is simple: Diversity is good. Claremont McKenna College Professor Kenneth Miller said under cross-examination that he did not know how frequently gay Americans are fired or harassed at work but assumed it happens often. More
