A move to close the health care disparities gap
Center For American Progress    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As a recent report from the Center for American Progress shows, there is much to be done in the context of the budget, health care reform, and beyond to provide equal health care for all Americans. Half of Hispanics and more than a quarter of African Americans do not have a regular doctor, compared with only one-fifth of white Americans. And 28 percent of Latinos and 22 percent of African Americans report having little or no choice in where to seek care, while only 15 percent of white Americans report this difficulty. The inevitable consequence is a form of "medical apartheid" and a gap in health outcomes that is growing, not diminishing. More

The promise of diversity is yet to be fulfilled
NPR    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Between the 1970s and today, the term "affirmative action" fell out of favor, and in its place, "diversity" emerged. Over the years, it became tainted by controversy over reverse discrimination and quota-mongering. More

The Philadelphia Inquirer    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Despite long résumés with proven results, baby boomers often have an uphill climb competing with younger jobseekers. Older workers may be experienced decision makers with little need for training, yet a hiring manager may see them as expensive, inflexible and old-fashioned. In today's economy, that hill has become more like a mountain. More

Women are gaining clout in the workplace
San Diego Union Tribune    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Recent data show that in more than one out of five households, women are now the major breadwinners — and the younger the couples are, the greater the chance that women will be earning the larger paychecks.
