Nearly 350 participants came together for the 2010 World Diversity Leadership Summit at the Harvard Medical School in Boston. During the two-day event, everyone agreed on one thing: the traditional ways to address diversity in the workplace and marketplace are no longer effective. Three themes emerged from workshop discussions and keynotes inviting the audience to create a new version of diversity - a 2.0 of sorts - that fosters innovation, advocates for inclusion and promotes interdependence among constituencies. A University of Wisconsin-Madison doctor who has long worked to increase the entry of women into the scientific workforce has won a grant to develop video games to uncover and neutralize implicit, unintentional biases against women, minorities and people with disabilities. After years of effort, many fields in science, math, engineering and medicine still have trouble attracting and retaining women and minorities, and all find women underrepresented in leadership, says Molly Carnes, director of the UW-Madison Center for Women's Health Research. She says even people who favor diversity and resist bias may unintentionally act upon implicit bias. More

But at some South Florida businesses, employees need only hail the company chaplain for help. About 20 South Florida companies offer a chaplain service as a benefit through Corporate Chaplains of America, a Christian non-denominational counseling service based in Raleigh, N.C. The chaplains can assist with stressful situations that affect workers, including divorce, financial problems, and lately, home loan modifications and foreclosures. More

While many American companies say that hiring people with disabilities is important, few of them actually hire these job seekers or take steps to provide a welcoming work environment, a new survey finds. The national poll of 411 senior executives and human resource managers found that 70 percent of respondents' companies have diversity policies or programs in place, but only two-thirds of those with programs include disability as a component.
