Even as new and existing home sales and prices climb, homeowners are prioritizing aesthetics before profit, according to a recent Houzz & Home Survey conducted among users of the Houzz app and website. Among homeowners planning to build, remodel or decorate in the next two years, 86 percent cited "improving the look and feel of the space" as an important driver for remodeling projects, while only 47 percent cited "increasing home value." ABI reverts to negative territory in April

After five months of positive readings, the Architecture Billings Index has fallen into negative terrain. The AIA reported the April ABI score was 48.4, following a mark of 50.4 in March. "Favorable conditions during the winter months may have accelerated design billings, producing a pause in projects that have moved ahead faster than expected," said AIA Chief Economist Kermit Baker.
