Navy implementing world's largest telepharmacy system

The U.S. Navy is in the midst of what's billed as the largest telepharmacy implementation in history to help ease a shortage of pharmacists throughout the service. With technology from Mission, Kan.-based ScriptPro, a single pharmacist can supervise medication dispensing at multiple satellite pharmacies. With audio and video links, the supervising pharmacist can view original handwritten prescriptions, the medication being dispensed at the remote site and stored images of the prescribed drug to make sure the patient gets the right medication. Kentucky launches e-health network

Officials with the state of Kentucky on April 20 announced the official launch of the Kentucky Health Information Exchange -- the state's electronic health records sharing initiative. Six hospitals and one clinic in Kentucky are participating in the pilot program, according to a news release issued by Gov. Steve Beshear's office. More

Pharmacies participating in the Medicare prescription drug program will be mandated to electronically submit their Part D prescriptions to their Part D sponsor under a final rule published April 15. Bokamoso Private Hospital, a 200-bed, state-of-the-art specialty hospital that opened in January, is allowing patients to stay in the country for the medical care they need, officials said. Some 85 percent of doctors responding to an online poll at physician networking site Sermo say that interaction with colleagues on Sermo and other social media has led to better patient care and in some cases saved lives.
