Fibulin-5 gene polymorphism is associated with pelvic organ prolapse

FBLN5 encodes a key protein of elastic fiber matrix assembly and function that contributes to maintaining pelvic support and plays the important role in the pathophysiology of pelvic organ prolapse. The aim of the study was to investigate whether there is an association between common single-nucleotide polymorphisms of the FBLN5 gene and POP.

The safety and efficacy of a new adjustable single incision sling for treatment of female stress urinary incontinence through 12-months of follow-up

This study collected a variety of safety and efficacy measures relevant to assessment of urinary incontinence. The primary efficacy endpoint was improvement in 24-hour pad weight test. Other efficacy measures included Cough Stress Test, Urogenital Distress Inventory-Short Form, Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form, Patient Global Impression of Improvement, and 3-day voiding diary. Safety was evaluated through assessment of device and procedure-related adverse events.

Use of non-invasive uroflowmetry with simultaneous electromyography to monitor patient response to treatment for lower urinary tract conditions
Journal of Pediatric Urology
Non-invasive uroflowmetry with simultaneous electromyography has previously been reported as effective in triaging patients into four specific non-neurogenic lower urinary tract conditions for targeted treatment. In this study we sought to determine if the same parameters would be useful for measuring response to treatment.

Lack of association of joint hypermobility with urinary incontinence subtypes and pelvic organ prolapse

Two hundred and seventy women scheduled to undergo urodynamic investigations were invited to self-complete a validated 5-item JHM questionnaire. Women underwent history taking, symptoms assessing via the King's Health Questionnaire and clinical examination using the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q) system. Associations between JHM and pelvic floor disorders in univariate and multivariate ordinal regression were reported using odds ratios (ORs) and 95 percent confidence intervals (CIs).

Management of failed stress urinary incontinence surgery

With the increasing volume of surgery being performed for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, especially with the widespread use of midurethral slings, recurrent urinary incontinence is becoming an increasingly common condition. Various preoperative and intraoperative factors have been associated with failed SUI surgery.

Urinary symptom screening tool validated for female OAB

The Actionable Bladder Symptom Screening Tool is a reliable, valid and sensitive instrument in women with incontinence due to non-neurogenic overactive bladder, researchers report. The ABSST, which was originally developed for use by people with multiple sclerosis, may thus be useful in screening women with urinary symptoms and identifying those who might benefit from treatment, say the researchers.
