Arizona Wine Finally Breaks Through the 90-Point Wine Spectator Barrier

From July 11: Winemakers and Arizona wine lovers have been waiting very, very patiently for this well-deserved day: The day Wine Spectator finally awards this oh-so-fabulous wine from the great state of Arizona a score in the 90s. Page Springs Cellars and Burning Tree Cellars both scored 90 for their 2010 Colibri vineyard wines.

Discover Arizona Wines: A Good Reputation is Growing
City Sun Times via Lawrence Dunham Vineyards
From July 3: "We are not just making good Arizona wine, we are producing great wines that stand side-by-side with wines from other great wine producing regions," says Curt Dunham, Lawrence Dunham Vineyards' winemaker. Local chefs agree with him. Scott Stephens, managing partner of Beckett's Table restaurant, says that Arizona is producing great wine, which makes it incredibly easy to promote.

Reminder: New Laws Take Effect

From Sept. 12: This is a reminder that the laws passed during the 2013 First Regular Session of Arizona's 51st Legislature will become effective Friday, Sept. 13, unless otherwise indicated. The board of the Arizona Wine Growers Association would like to voice its strong appreciation for the advocacy support provided by Tom Dorn and his team — Eric Emmert, Heather Wilkey and Amanda Rusing — at Dorn Policy Group during the past year. AWGA Legislative Report: SB 1301 Awaits Governor's Signature

From April 4: Progress during this week of the Legislative Session saw continued movement for a bill of special importance to the wine industry in Arizona: SB 1301 (liquor licenses; wineries; microbreweries) was approved by the House, 59-0-1. It has been sent to Gov. Jan Brewer and now awaits her signature.

How Arizona Wine Made a Splash in Paris

From April 18: Some bottles of Arizona wine recently had their corks popped in France, a country whose veneration of wine is nearly as legendary as its snootiness. But the wine was not seen as an Ugly American; the Parisians went through a case tout de suite and wanted more. The occasion was a luncheon for French journalists, hosted by the Arizona Department of Tourism. The Arizona Wine Growers' Association sent Treasurer Robert Carlson, of Carlson Creek Vineyards, to make the case for the state's industry.
