Arizona Pushes Ahead With Wine Policy Day

An innovative new program coordinated by WineAmerica, the national association of American wineries, has become another casualty of the federal government's shutdown. Billed as "Grassroots outreach to lawmakers in-district" during the traditional congressional recess Oct. 12-20, three of the four states that had enlisted dropped out or changed plans. Only Arizona is going forward with scaled-down programs aimed at senior congressional staffers.

2013 Taste of the Verde Valley's Barrel Auction to Benefit Yavapai College
Cliff Castle Casino Hotel
The 2013 Taste of the Verde Valley, an annual celebration of the Verde Valley's wine harvest, will take place Nov. 2, 1 to 5 p.m., at the Stargazer Pavilion. Live music will be provided by Native American Music Award winner Gabriel Ayala, setting the mood for this anticipated celebration, and the Yavapai Apache Nation Cultural Center will be exhibiting at the event. The Verde Valley Wine Trail Painted Barrel auction has become a featured part of the celebration as well. Proceeds from the auction go to the Yavapai College Viticulture program. Cliff Castle Casino Hotel is hosting the 2013 Taste of the Verde Valley. Tickets are available in advance at the Castle Club or by calling 928-567-7999; tickets are also available at the gate.

Yavapai College Presents Draft 10-Year Plan

Around 50 members of the Clarkdale community gathered recently at Yavapai College to hear the school's plan for the next 10 years, said spokesman Mark Lange. This was one of two public forums, the other held at the Prescott campus, to present the school's plan to ensure its facilities can provide "quality programming and services in a cost-efficient manner for the next 10 years."
