Golf Channel announced that Molly Solomon will become its executive producer, becoming the first female to hold that position at a national TV sports channel. Marilou McFarlane joins Altitude Group as vice president of strategic partnerships for the West Coast. The Robert R. McCormick Foundation's Journalism Program is launching Why News Matters, a grant-making program designed to enhance news literacy skills and programs in Chicago. The McCormick Foundation plans to invest as much as $6 million over the next three years in the Why News Matters initiative. The goal of this request for ideas is to significantly expand news literacy efforts throughout Chicago. The foundation will solicit ideas and then fund a portfolio of high-impact projects. Organizations selected for funding will carry out multifaceted approaches of expanding news literacy efforts throughout the Chicago area. Women were listed as inventors on 18 percent of all patents issued to U.S. inventors, according to data released by the National Women's Business Council. The Alliance for Women in Media is pleased to announce the launch of the brand new AWM Career Center. Both members and nonmembers can use the AWM Career Center to reach qualified candidates. Employers can post jobs online, search for qualified candidates based on specific job criteria and create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily. They also benefit from online reporting that provides job activity statistics. For job seekers, AWM Career Center is a free service that provides access to employers and jobs in the media industry. In addition to posting their resumes, job seekers can browse and view available jobs based on their criteria and save those jobs for later review if they choose.
