Sandie Viquez Pedlow takes over as executive director of Latino Public Broadcasting on July 6. She'll direct operations of public media's largest Latino-focused content developer and funder. Juju Chang will be leaving "Good Morning America" to take a full-time role on "Nightline," ABC News President Ben Sherwood announced. Chang will be a special correspondent and fill-in anchor. Comcast Corporation recently announced that it is taking the first steps to launch 10 new independent channels over the next eight years, including eight that are Hispanic and African-American owned or operated. Of the 10 new channels scheduled to be added, Comcast is now accepting proposals for the first three. One of the channels, which Comcast intends to launch by July 28, 2012, will be American Latino operated and programmed in English. The other two will be majority African-American owned and will launch by Jan. 28, 2013. Ultimately, each of the 10 networks will be added on select Comcast systems as part of the D1 digital tier. Users concerned with online privacy have been struggling for years to come up with a solution to being tracked on the Web. At the opening day of the annual CinemaCon annual conference for theater owners, Warner Bros. international executives noted the 65 percent expansion of the Chinese film market, predicting that it is poised to beat the North American box office in 10 years. China's 2010 box office revenues increased $1.5 billion in China, in part due to new cinema construction and with half of the earnings coming from 3-D titles, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A cable channel that has changed names and focus several times is being retooled again, in this instance to try reaching a somewhat older — and more female — audience. The channel is Spike, part of the MTV Networks unit of Viacom. The revamped Spike will now also be aimed at women ages 18 to 49, who may have previously been deterred by the guy-centric, fratty tone and attitude of the channel, which was exemplified by the double entendre in its slogan, "Get some action." News Corp.-owned Fox Networks Group is forming Fox Hispanic Media, a group of Spanish-language networks that seek to capture advertising dollars in a more efficient way by offering advertisers a one-stop shop to target Hispanic men, women and families.
