Healthy MEdia Commission releases 'Elements of Healthy Media' report

AWM applauds the Healthy MEdia: Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls commission co-chairs Geena Davis, Academy Award-winning actor and founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and Deborah Taylor Tate, former FCC commissioner on the release of the commission's first report. The Elements of Healthy Media defines what comprises positive and healthy media — from onscreen images, to increased and diverse roles for women, to healthy and meaningful relationships. These definitions lay the groundwork for the commission's final recommendations, scheduled for release this fall. More



Pat Summitt to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

Pat Summitt, the former head coach of the University of Tennessee's women's basketball team, will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the White House announced. Summitt, the winningest coach in basketball history, announced her retirement after coaching the Lady Volunteers for 38 years. Summitt was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. More

Study: Young women value high-paying careers more than young men

A growing number of younger women see the importance of a high salary. A new study by the Pew Research Center reports women ages 18 to 34 are more concerned with finding a high-paying career than men of the same age, 66 percent compared with 59 percent. The increased ambition speaks in part to the fact that more women are expecting to remain single for a longer time or never marry, said Kim Parker, associate director of Pew Research Center's Social and Demographic Trends project. More

The Alliance for Women in Media is pleased to announce the launch of the brand new AWM Career Center. Both members and nonmembers can use the AWM Career center to reach qualified candidates. Employers can post jobs online, search for qualified candidates based on specific job criteria and create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily. They also benefit from online reporting that provides job activity statistics. For job seekers, AWM Career Center is a free service that provides access to employers and jobs in the media industry. In addition to posting their resumes, job seekers can browse and view available jobs based on their criteria and save those jobs for later review if they choose.
