Last week, Hollywood's stars shone a little brighter as the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) descended upon the historic Beverly Hilton Hotel, for the 37th Annual Gracie Awards. 2012 National Gracie Award winners were honored in a star‐studded gala hosted by Emmy® Award‐winning actress Angela Kinsey. The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation presented "TODAY" with three Gracie Awards last week for programming created for women, by women and about women. The broadcast received the award for Outstanding Talk Show, Savannah Guthrie took home the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement and the TODAY Moms blog picked up the honor for Outstanding Blog. In his company's most recent earnings call, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong said he wanted to restructure the company in a way that made individual content brands within the AOL portfolio more responsible for their businesses. AOL is making a series of changes that seem designed in part to do that, starting with the appointment of Janet Balis as the Huffington Post Media Group's first publisher. She had been senior vice president for sales strategy, marketing and partnerships for AOL Advertising since October. Forbes.com contributor Eric Jackson recently wrote a controversial post comparing the media attention that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg gets to that of former Marimba CEO Kim Polese 15 years ago. Readers accused Jackson of sexism, saying his post was "dreadful," "ridiculous" and ignored all that Sandberg has achieved. By the next morning, Jackson had deleted the post and written an apology. The incident raises important questions about transparency and Forbes.com's publishing process, in which freelance contributors can publish and delete posts without input from editors. ABC has named one of its longtime marketing executives, Marla Provencio, to the new role of chief marketing officer for the Disney broadcast network's prime-time, daytime and late-night entertainment schedule. For Provencio, the move is the culmination of a 31-year career at the network, where she has done everything from helping to devise "Desperate Housewives" dry-cleaning bags that read "Everyone has a little dirty laundry" to promoting the series finale of "Lost" without releasing any new footage that might spoil the program for hardcore fans. NBCUniversal announced it has given Susan Malfa oversight of ad sales for Style Media, to go along with Bravo and Oxygen Media and Women at NBCU. Malfa's new position is senior vice president, ad sales, Bravo Media, Oxygen Media, Style Media and Women at NBCU, where she has spent the past five years. Style Media became part of NBCU after Comcast acquired the programmer from General Electric. More

The Alliance for Women in Media is pleased to announce the launch of the brand new AWM Career Center. Both members and nonmembers can use the AWM Career center to reach qualified candidates. Employers can post jobs online, search for qualified candidates based on specific job criteria and create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily. They also benefit from online reporting that provides job activity statistics. For job seekers, AWM Career Center is a free service that provides access to employers and jobs in the media industry. In addition to posting their resumes, job seekers can browse and view available jobs based on their criteria and save those jobs for later review if they choose. Job seekers can also create a search agent to provide email notifications of jobs that match their criteria. More |
