AWM Foundation announces Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship winner

The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced today that CUNY Hunter College student Allyson Conyers is the recipient of The Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship. The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation engaged in a partnership with The Loreen Arbus Foundation to focus on the needs, achievements, contributions and stories of citizens with disabilities. In 2009, AWM created The Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship to be given to aspiring student television and filmmakers. This year's theme is You Make The Difference. Conyers created a short video that reflects upon the daily obstacles a person with a disability faces and the surmounting of which allow her to become a thriving and valued member of our community. More

Local Focus Radio has finalized a new national representation agreement with Rocking M Radio, bringing 17 new Kansas stations to their roster. Local Focus has signed more than 40 stations in four months, and the company says it is adding salespeople and opening new offices. Local Focus President Kay Olin said, "Our growth has been steady in the last year and remarkable since January. I am confident that our mission to serve independent broadcasters is on target." Mobile news products do not appear to be replacing printed newspapers as quickly as was earlier predicted, a new survey shows. Two-thirds of U.S. adults now use at least one mobile media device in their daily lives, according to the survey recently conducted by the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri. The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation provides aspiring business owners and executive professionals with leadership exposures and training they need to own and operate a radio or television station. The Broadcast Leadership Training program is targeted to senior-level broadcast managers of proven ability who seek professional advancements as group executives or station owners. The program focuses on the unique process of assessing, purchasing, owning and operating radio and television stations. The program meets one weekend a month for 10 months at NAB Headquarters. AWM launches new Career Center; free resume uploads for job seekers

The Alliance for Women in Media is pleased to announce the launch of the brand new AWM Career Center. Both members and nonmembers can use the AWM Career center to reach qualified candidates. Employers can post jobs online, search for qualified candidates based on specific job criteria and create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily. They also benefit from online reporting that provides job activity statistics. For job seekers, AWM Career Center is a free service that provides access to employers and jobs in the media industry. In addition to posting their resumes, job seekers can browse and view available jobs based on their criteria and save those jobs for later review if they choose. Job seekers can also create a search agent to provide email notifications of jobs that match their criteria. More
