Celebrities, doctors and the Girls Scouts want to protect young women from the destructive effects of seeing idealized, computer-altered photos of femininity in popular magazines. The result of ongoing exposure to unrealistic images, says dermatologist Dr. David Sire of Fullerton, Calif., is that young women end up with "goals for physical appearance that are unobtainable. This creates the association of the young woman's self image as being inadequate or ugly."
