AWM will mark its 60th Anniversary at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square with an elegant luncheon celebrating the organization's lasting legacy and its future impact on all forms of media by, for and about women. Sue Mengers, one of Hollywood's most influential and colorful agents, died Oct. 15. Mengers, who at her peak in the 1970s represented such stars as Barbra Streisand, Bob Fosse, Michael Caine, Peter Bogdanovich, Ryan O'Neal and Faye Dunaway, blazed a trail for women agents in Hollywood. "Her name became synonymous with women and what she helped us all to accomplish," said Boarty Boatwright, a talent agent at ICM. More

There were the Nine Old Men, Walt Disney's famed founding animators, and then there was visual stylist Mary Blair. Along with such legends as Marc Davis, Ollie Johnston, Frank Thomas and Wolfgang Reitherman, Blair worked on the studio's animated features for more than 20 years — the only woman to have such a prominent role at Disney. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will celebrate the late visual stylist at Disney who worked her magic on "Cinderella," "Peter Pan" and other projects. More

Is Queen Latifah adding the title "studio boss" to her already impressive resume? The actress-rapper-Cover Girl announced the launch of her new behind-the-scenes venture, Flavor Unit Studios. The Miami-based production company will kick off with the feature film, "Percentage," a crime drama starring Cam'ron, Omar Gooding, Macy Gray and Ving Rhames. More

Girls who regularly watch reality television expect — and accept — more bullying and drama in their lives, a just-released study suggested. They also assign more value to physical appearances, and to view themselves as leaders and role models, according to the nationwide survey by the research wing of the Girl Scouts of the United States. Study: Debates sway media coverage

Presidential candidate debates have a significant impact not just on voter sentiments but on media sentiments, according to a study by the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism. The study used computer software and with human judgment to assess the tone of news and opinion coverage of the 2012 presidential race and found that the debates "have coincided with some notable shifts in tone." Marketing executives who are married with kids might be surprised to find that they represent a mere 1 in 5 households nationwide. In fact, the 2010 census found a record low 48 percent of U.S. households were married couples and that iconic American family, married with children, had slipped to a new low of 20 percent of all households. In fact, more than 45 million women are householders (the term used by the U.S. Census Bureau for heads of households of any gender), which is a record high and double the number counted in the 1980 census.
