AWM will mark its 60th Anniversary at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square with an elegant luncheon celebrating the organization's lasting legacy and its future impact on all forms of media by, for and about women. The Alliance for Women in Media recently announced that Grammy-winning BMI singer-songwriter and musician Vanessa Carlton will perform at the AWM's 60th Anniversary Luncheon on Nov. 3 in New York City. Kelly Cole, National Association of Broadcasters senior vice president of government relations, has been promoted to executive vice president where she will oversee all advocacy efforts of the department. Cole joined the NAB in 2006 after serving six years as telecommunications counsel to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she was an advisor on legal and policy issues relating to communications and the Internet. WTA signs Allaster up for 5 more years

Stacey Allaster will lead the Women's Tennis Association another five years to 2017, putting her in line to become the longest-serving female chief executive in women's tour history. Under her leadership, the tour has increased prize money, TV viewership and attendance at its biggest events. It has also secured new revenues of $80 million via new and old sponsors, such as Sony Ericsson and sportswear company Peak. More

Cineflix hires Lisa Levenson to launch Los Angeles arm

Cineflix Media has hired veteran reality TV producer Lisa Levenson to launch a Los Angeles office for the Canadian producer and distributor. Levenson, whose credits include "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette," will serve as executive vice president of programming, pulling together the varied international production strands of Cineflix, and bringing Hollywood talent and partners into the mix. More



Tablet owners spend more time online

Owners of tablet computers spend 48 percent more time online than the population as a whole, according to a new study. The report found that tablet users spend four hours, 19 minutes each day on the Internet, compared with two hours, 55 minutes for all others. In addition, tablet ownership is a marker for other tech characteristics: 92 percent of tablet owners also have a smartphone. More

Women entering executive suites, boardrooms at halting pace

Women have surfaced among the top ranks of large companies in recent years, but for more robust growth to occur, both women themselves and companies must step up their commitment to change, according to the 11th annual Women on Boards report. Research for the report showed that the proportion of women in executive suites at the Philadelphia region's 100 largest companies increased by 17 percent from 2005 to 2010, while the proportion of women directors increased by 4 percent. More women also joined the ranks of the companies' top earners. More

In television, funny is money again. For the better part of a decade, while drama became more ambitious, and reality shows became more outrageous, comedy had the worst track record in prime time. As recently as 2008, only two comedies ranked among the top 10 shows at this point in a new television season. Two years earlier, the total was zero. But comedy has surged back this fall, elbowing past those other genres to reclaim supremacy among viewers. More
