RSVP to join AWM at next week's Symposium in Chicago as we investigate topics surrounding digital literacy, including the digital literacy challenge for girls, how to train employees for your digital demands and even the next "big thing" in the digital world. AWM's Symposium on Digital Literacy for Women & Girls will take place Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Chicago Tribune building. Registration is free, but space is limited. Annapurna, a Hindu goddess of nourishment, has her name on a section of the Himalayas. Annapurna Pictures operates from a cluster of three multimillion-dollar homes in the Hollywood Hills. Instead of a goddess, Annapurna Pictures has Megan Ellison, a 25-year-old scion of Silicon Valley, who over the last year or so has been feeding what may soon be hundreds of millions of dollars to the hungriest part of the movie business: the writers, producers, directors and stars who make sophisticated dramas and adventure films that are too risky for studios and their corporate owners. The annual New Establishment list, just unveiled by Vanity Fair, shows pop superstar Lady Gaga as the highest-ranked woman at No. 9. According to the magazine, the list "identifies the top 50 of an innovative new breed of buccaneering visionaries, engineering prodigies and entrepreneurs." The other women on the list are author J. K. Rowling, Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, Net-a-Porter Group's Natalie Massenet, Burberry's Angela Ahrendts and All Things D's Kara Swisher. More

When the teenage fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson announced that she was joining forces with the editor Jane Pratt to start a magazine modeled after Pratt's much-mourned Sassy, the blogosphere lit up with excitement. Gevinson's precocious blog, Style Rookie, has, in a mere three-and-a-half years, made her a darling of the fashion establishment. As it turns out, Pratt is not officially involved, although she will appear on the contributors' page as "fairy godmother." More

Hispanic radio continues growth

A new survey showed that in fall 2009, there were 1,323 Spanish-language radio stations in the U.S., an 8 percent increase from 2008. Out of that number, 96 stations were Spanish-language news/talk. The research shows that Univision owned 70 stations by the end of 2010 while Entravision owned 48 stations. More

When a team of cardiologists wanted to better understand an extremely rare heart condition called spontaneous coronary artery dissection, they reached out to possible participants on patient-run social media sites dedicated to women's heart health. It was something of a shot in the dark, but Mayo Clinic cardiologist Sharonne Hayes says that in doing so, her team stumbled on a novel way to recruit participants who are notoriously hard to track down. More
