New jobs in manufacturing account for 6 percent of surprise boost

New jobs in manufacturing helped boost the overall positive job figures released today. Wall Street's record-setting rise this week ends with the Bureau of Labor Statistics announcing that 236,000 new jobs were added in February, with the manufacturing sector contributing 14,000, or 6 percent, of the total.

General Motors hiring 1,000 IT workers for new Arizona innovation center

General Motors recently announced plans to hire 1,000 high-tech workers to staff a new IT innovation center in suburban Phoenix. The largest U.S. automaker said it expects to hire more than 4,000 new information technology workers over the next three to five years to staff centers in Arizona, Texas, Georgia and Michigan.

NRCTC debuts state-of-the-art welding labs

New River Community and Technical College in Beckley, W.V., recently announced full, state-of-the-art welding labs are operational at both its Lewisburg and Ghent campuses. While New River has offered a variety of certificates and degrees in Lewisburg's lab for some time, Ghent's full lab at the Advanced Technology Center is newly installed and has "students working on real, hands-on projects that can be applied to real world problems on the job," according to instructor Brad Veneri.
