'Manufacturing renaissance' to create millions of US jobs
Raycom News Network via KCTV-TV    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As the cost of labor and shipping goods from China grows, America could see the reversal of outsourcing trends with 2 to 3 million jobs coming to the U.S. as the manufacturing sector sees a resurgence. A new report from the Boston Consulting Group predicts that seven sectors which make up about $200 billion worth of goods imported from China will shift work to America by the end of the decade. The change would lower unemployment by 1.5 to 2 percentage points. By around 2015, the report predicts the U.S. will be strong enough to seem more attractive to manufacturers than China. More

US manufacturers see higher China solar duties ahead
Reuters via Chicago Tribune    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. solar panel manufacturers still are optimistic of winning substantial duties on solar panel imports from China, despite an initial U.S. government ruling that many found surprisingly low, the lead attorney for the industry group said. The U.S. Commerce Department, which announced preliminary "countervailing" duties of less than 5 percent, is expected to impose a bigger set of "anti-dumping" duties when it takes its next crack at the case in May. Nearshoring fuels Mexican manufacturing growth despite violence
Industryweek    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Closer, cheaper, friendlier. That might have been the formula underlying moving to or opening manufacturing operations in Mexico. The United States' southern neighbor offers transportation distances a fraction of those from Asia, a labor force a good deal cheaper than domestic workers, and a country causing fewer headaches about intellectual property and other trade concerns. But in recent years, drug-related violence along the border has caused some manufacturers to be more cautious about making the move to Mexico. More

Honda recalls 1,300 CR-V SUVs in US
Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is recalling 1,316 CR-V sport utility vehicles in the United States for a potential welding problem that could lead to impaired vehicle handling, the Japanese automaker said. Honda said in a statement that an improper welding process used when manufacturing the right front lower control arm on the SUVs from model year 2006 might allow the part to break at the weld. Vehicle handling could be affected in that case, increasing the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, Honda said. More
