Texas college's welding instructor builds character while teaching skills
Fort Bend Star
Wharton County (Texas) Junior College welding instructor Aaron Dittmar has always loved working with metal. He just never saw himself teaching others how to do it. “I’m not big on being in the spotlight,” the Wharton native explains. With his reserved nature and strong work ethic, Dittmar could easily have found fulfillment honing his craft for a manufacturing company or a machine shop. In fact, after graduating from Wharton High School in 2002, he put his skills to the test for several area businesses, working primarily as a fabrication and maintenance welder.

Oregon's Norton Welding begins to rebuild
Wallowa County Bulletin
A 36-year-old welding and full-service machine shop in Lostine, Oregon, devastated by fire Feb. 8, Norton’s Welding & Repair LLC, has begun to rebuild. First footings with poles were erected June 12 to replace the nonshop portion of the business nearest Highway 82 that was erased along with the South Fork Grange in that hot February blaze. Co-owner Krag Norton says the biggest deterrent to beginning the rebuild sooner has been the permitting process, yet he’s confident the construction being done by BL Builders Inc. will be completed this summer.

Large majority of car manufacturing now in right-to-work states
Washington Examiner
Even before Michigan passed a right-to-work law in 2012, U.S. car manufacturing was drifting south to places like Tennessee that had long had the law. A study shows just how far the shift has happened: An estimated 70 percent of domestic car and car parts manufacturing is now located in right-to-work states. That is the finding of a National Institute for Labor Relations Research analysis released June 16.
