Why the manufacturing skills gap is serious
IMPO via Manufacturing.net
The manufacturing skills gap It seems you can’t go a week without a politician, media outlet or industry leader wringing their hands over this issue, perhaps because it’s just so confounding. In an industry that has yet to recover the jobs lost in the recession, we’re dealing with vacancies in the skilled trades that threaten to derail production growth and sector expansion. According to Manpower Group’s latest Talent Shortage Survey, skilled trades positions are the most difficult to fill, and have ranked No. 1 for the past four years.

Houston has been named the best city in America for manufacturing by Forbes. The Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area outstripped past giants Los Angeles and Chicago, where the manufacturing sectors are shrinking rapidly compared to Houston, which is on a strong trajectory, according to the magazine's analysts. Forbes says the more than $35 billion worth of new refineries planned next year for the Bayou City and the surrounding area puts Houston way ahead for businesses looking to the future.
