So You're the New Welding Engineer
AWS
Nov. 11-12, 2014
Atlanta
FABTECH Show — Georgia World Congress Center — Room C302

How to get "up to speed" quickly, how to ask the right questions, how to get the results you need, save money, and stay out of trouble! This two-day conference is for managers, engineers, designers, and others with welding responsibility but limited exposure to or background in welding. The conference focuses on arc welding applications, but the principles have universal applicability. Presentations and discussion are based on the "Application Analysis Worksheet," which was developed to teach a senior college course to engineers about to enter industry, with the objective of helping them develop a path to understand and deal with the challenges they were about to face.

According to the American Welding Society, America will need more than 290,000 welding industry professionals by 2020. That’s true for Grand Island, Nebraska, where welders play a key role for a number of manufacturers. Community officials have taken steps to address the welder shortage through programs at Central Community College and the Grand Island Public Schools’ Career Pathways Institute.

New manufacturing locations present a mixed blessing
MiBiz
Most automotive component suppliers want to grow over time, and that usually entails adding manufacturing capacity, whether by adding on to an existing plant, building a brand new facility, buying a building or acquiring a company. Along with the question of how to execute the expansion of capacity is the critical issue of where to expand. Sometimes that is answered by a key customer wanting a source of supply near one of its own facilities for lower freight costs and better service. Or it might be a function of the supplier’s strategy as it considers where its best opportunities lie.
