A helium shortage attributed to a refinery shutdown in Wyoming is putting a pinch on the party balloon industry and has put Sioux Falls businesses on allocated deliveries. Today, that number has shrunk significantly: Manufacturing jobs make up less than 10 percent of the U.S. workforce. As the country seeks to reinvigorate its job market and move past an economic recession, the state of U.S. manufacturing has become a hotly debated topic. Sixteen-year-old James Duncan is a second-year welding student at Roanoke Technical Education Center in Roanoke, Texas. "I want to do this as a career," he said, standing in the school's welding workshop. "My dad was a welder on the shipyard in Philly, and also my cousin is in welding. They are always looking for welders. It's good money." More



Survey leads to welding class at S.D. technical school

Student demand has led to a new welding class at Hub Area Technical School in Aberdeen, S.D. School officials did a survey in November to gauge student interest in various classes and welding beat out some of the classes that were already offered, said instructor Kenn Bailly. So this year, one, nine-week introduction to wire feed welding class is being offered each quarter. More
